2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Our last meeting for the Spring 2012 semester continued our record of productive face-to-face sessions. From now until August, all communications will be virtual, e.g., this blog, email, LinkedIn, etc.

A. Members Present
  • Zachary Scott, Jr (School of B)
  • Jeremy Blackstone (CEACS)
  • Paul Alade (Electrical Engineering)
  • Timoth Staton-Davis (CEACS)
  • Oluwaseun Ademuwagun (CEAS)
  • Dr. B (Office of the Provost)

B. Brief Summary of Main Points
Attendees were asked to identify the resources that should be acquired by the incubator group during the summer months that would encourage them to spend their creative time in the Fall 2012 semester working on projects withing the group rather than elsewhere. Their responses fell into two categories: management and programming resources:

1. Business Resources
  • Ability to obtain data about the users of our apps, e.g., how many users, how many downloads, their satisfaction/complaints, etc
  • Mentors who can critique our apps -- what's right, wrong about them
  • Focus groups -- give us specific suggestions about desired features for apps
  • Publicist/Sales rep -- promote use of apps by users
  • Access to research databases, e.g., SMP Research Services, Nielson, Boston Consulting Group (BCG)
-- what apps are already out there, how well are they selling
  • Communications -- Google docs, LinkedIn, Drop Box
  • Feasibility tests -- user feedback from downloads of beta apps
2. Programming Resources
  • Collaboration software -- check in/out versions of apps by different members of the group
  • References, e.g., Safari books
  • Hardware -- PCs, Macs, smartphones, and tablets for testing
  • SDKs and other tools installed on all workstations
  • Links to tutorials on Web -- How to write apps, etc
  • Our own space somewhere
3. Howard App
Discussion was also given to some specs for the group's main project
  • GPS
  • Schedule of classes
  • Newsletter ... replace printed Hilltop, etc
  • Course assignments
  • Bison Bucks ... Howard coupons at local merchants

C. Tasks to Be Completed by Friday 5/11 2012 -- end of Spring semester
These tasks will be completed faster if everyone gets involved ... :-)
  • Full set of specs for Howard App
  • Links to apps like Howard App at other colleges and universities
  • Everyone needs to activate a LinkedIn account
  • Everyone needs to accept Dr. B's invitation to join the "Howard-Apps-Dev" group on LinkedIn
Note: the Key Players who support our group's activities will be invited to join the LinkedIn group, i.e., Venture Capital firms, founders of successful app development firms, hotshot app developers, etc, etc, etc
